Very interesting footage. My girlfriend is from Newcastle -I must get her to translate some of that geordie slang, ha ha!
Dr. Stanley Cohen, who appears in this footage, wrote one of the first books about British subcultures titled 'Folk Devils and Moral Panics'.

Good documentary that I've never seen before despite coming from this area of North-East England.

Back in the 80s and 90s I used to socialise and work in Newcastle and never saw any skins v hairies violence. By then it was mostly 'trendies' attacking punks and goths when the pubs closed.

All of those areas in the film have now been regenerated and Newcastle is quite the Bohemian City now....

It's funny watching this now though as only yesterday some of the 2013 Newcastle scum started fighting and throwing bottles at the police after a football match they lost against arch rivals Sunderland.
One Geordie tit even punched a police horse....what a clown!

Colin I'm about a third of the way through a book called "Bovver!" that follows the firsthand account of a teenage skinhead/football hooligan and it sounds like nothing's changed in 40 years in that department! But it's nothing exclusive for the U.K. Here in the States knuckleheads in the inner cities torch cars and vandalize things when their team wins! Scum are scum no matter what language they speak, what team they support or what color skin they have.
